tagging up for court time - rules
Every member has a tag at the club that is used to reserve court time. It displays their name and rating level. As a courtesy, all members should be present at least five minutes prior to their reserved court time. If you are more than 10 minutes late, your court time may be forfeited.
Court Stewards are responsible for the smooth operation of the Tagging Board, including enforcement of tag-up rules.
The first member to place his or her tag on the upper hook sets the level of play during that court time.
Members with the same rating are free to tag up with the first member.
Members with a rating higher or lower than the first member must ask and receive permission from the first member BEFORE tagging up.
No telephone reservations for court times are permitted
One member may only tag up a maximum of three other players on the same court. The first member must place his or her tag on the upper hook.
A member may tag up for only one court at a time – double-booking is forbidden. Specifically, while a member is on court playing or involved in a DTC activity (a tennis lesson, for example), his or her tag may not be moved in order to reserve a subsequent match or court time. Further, no other member’s tag may be used to falsely reserve any court time (violation of such will be subject to discipline).
No player may tag up for court time 50 minutes prior to a DTC activity for which he or she has signed up, such as ladder play, lessons, house league, team practices or games, or a tournament.
With a choice of courts available at the same time, as a courtesy, please allow doubles play to override singles play to permit maximum court time for members.
exceptions to above rules
“Doubles Only” sign. When the court steward sees that that there are two time slots completely filled (including the current time slot), they will put up a ‘Doubles Only’ sign to allow maximum court usage, as of the immediately following (the third) time slot. This simply means that as of that time, doubles play may not be refused.
Player Development Day: On Sunday, players can tag up or down by .5 on Sundays without asking other members for permission. eg. A 3.0 member is tagged for court time. A 3.5 or a 2.5 could tag up with them without asking.
