Davisville Cup High School Reunion
June 10, 2017
One of our most successful Davisville Cups ever is 10 years old, and we are going back in 2017 for a Reunion. High School characters of all sorts, will fill our courts on June 10 as we raise money for Philpott. We expect this year's cup to sell out early and so don't hesitate to get involved now.
We raised over $12,000 in 2016 with our Pirate theme, thanks to our fantastic team of sponsors, volunteers and members.
Davisville Cup has raised over $141,000 for the Philpott Children's Fund over the last 11 years. This unique day is a chance for Davisville members to enjoy a great day playing tennis and making a difference in our community.
Find out more below, or look for our booth on opening day! We sell out at 72 participants ... make sure that you are one of them! This is the best day of the summer at Davisville, and not to be missed!!
What is Davisville Cup?
It is our annual charity tournament that is all about FUN! Participants are organized onto teams and each team is given a theme. Costumes, court decorations, food and music are all part of this unique tournament. Past themes include: Countries, Davisville High, Day at the Movies, Battle of the Bands, Time Travel, Circus, Super Heroes and Pirates! We have seen cheerleaders, gangsters, rockers and hippies, cavemen, aliens, sideshow freaks, Jack Sparrow, Inspector Gadget and more. This year, will be no different!
Dating back to 1996, Davisville members have organized a charity tennis tournament to support local charities. What began as a weekend tournament food drive has evolved into an important fundraiser. Philpott is able to run a complete camp location because of the success of what we do. Take a bow Davisville!
How does the tournament work?
In the course of a day, each team will have the chance to face off against each other. Matches are scheduled at an A, B, C level so that players find themselves in competitive matches... even while they are having fun. Each game is timed and scores are calculated by most points when the buzzer goes off. Fun games with everyone competing take place throughout the entire event. At the end of the day, teams compete in our finale, “Round the World”, to accumulate more points towards their final score. This is a fun tournament and so we also give points for spirit and highest dollars raised per team member.
What else can I expect at Davisville Cup?
Lots of stuff! We jam pack this day so that you feel really good about participating. We start the day off with breakfast. Every participant enjoys a delicious Davisville BBQ lunch and is encouraged to attend our after party to celebrate our success. The day also includes a large silent auction with an assortment of items to bid on. Each participant walks away with a thank you gift and you have many chances to win great prizes. You don’t want to miss this day!
What do I have to do to Participate?
Sign up early! This event sells out quickly - then fundraise a minimum of $50 in pledges. The more you raise the better and we have prizes for our Top Fundraisers. In the past, we have awarded Top Fundraisers with a Trip to Montreal to see a Rogers Cup match, an afternoon at Centre Court at the Rexall Centre, Tennis Racquets and VIP Tickets to Toronto’s Rogers Cup.
What is Philpott Children’s Tennis?
This organization runs 13 free tennis camps for inner-city children in Toronto's neighbourhoods where youth programming is needed. Their mission is to promote health, physical and moral well being among needy or disadvantaged inner-city children by providing skills development programs. Since 1991, the Philpott Children's Fund has helped introduce Toronto inner-city children to tennis. Qualified instructors have taught children the basics of the game, but equally important, they have helped them learn valuable lessons about interpersonal skills and discipline. Davisville Tennis Club's involvment allows Philpott to run an entire camp every year. www.philpottchildrenstennis.ca
